In order to take courses via distance education, you must have a compatible computer with an Internet connection. The computer system must comply with the following minimum requirements:
Hardware:
- Pentium 166MHz computer
- 32MB RAM
- VGA color monitor set to 800x600 resolution
- 56 Kbps modem speed or faster
Application Software:
- Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP
- Internet access (an Internet Service Provider)
- E-mail account
- Internet Explorer 5.01-7.x
- Mozilla Firefox 2.x
- Word processor (MS Word 95 or later or WordPerfect)
- Acrobat Reader 8.0 or greater
- Flash Player 5.0 or greater
- Media Player or Real Player
- PowerPoint or PowerPoint Viewer
- Excel or Excel Viewer (*some courses require the use of Excel)
Recommended System Requirements
The above referenced Minimum System Requirements represent the barest essentials technically necessary to successfully access online courses at Coleman University. The following list of suggested Hardware and Software requirements is intended to give the student a faster, more enjoyable experience while actively engaged with the online content of our distance education classrooms.

- 500MHz processor (Intel or AMD)
- 64MB SDRAM or better
- 15" (or larger) VGA color monitor set to 800 x 600 resolution
- Network Interface Card (NIC card) for cable or DSL modem access
Internet Connection:
- Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or Cable modem access (via ISP)
Application Software :
- Operating system: Windows 98/NT/2000/ME/XP — other operating systems (Apple, Linux) are neither recommended nor supported
- E-mail account
- Internet Explorer 7.0 (or later)
- MS Word 2000, Star Office 6.0, WordPerfect 10 or other compatible word processing application
- Acrobat Reader 7.0 or later
- Flash Player 5.0 or later
- PowerPoint 2000 or PowerPoint Viewer
- Excel 2000 or Excel Viewer or other Excel compatible spreadsheet application (*some courses require the use of Excel spreadsheets)

Some courses may require additional software. Please refer to the Courses Offered page for specific information regarding each course.
If you do not have a personal computer at home and are interested in purchasing one at this time, Coleman University has partnered with IBM so that you can obtain an educational discount.
